Lizzie is doing great & working very hard at Craig Hospital. She uses electric stimulation to activate muscles in her arms & legs. She loves going in the pool and her muscles respond well to the 98-degree water.
M-F 9-5 she is solidly working. She typically naps after classes for a couple hours...very rigorous schedule. We go on outings & adventures on the weekends...learning how to navigate in her power or manual chairs.
We are very grateful to everyone supporting us & look forward to returning to HB.
On Monday, July 31, public safety personnel from all over Southern California came together to show their support for Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lovat as she moves into her next stage of recovery.
On Monday, July 3, Lizzie was performing her duties as a Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguard Instructor when she suffered a spinal injury during ocean training exercises. Since then, she has been making great strides and is ready to take on the next phase of her recovery at a world-renowned rehabilitation center.
Lizzie’s spirits are high, and she is truly touched by the outpouring of love shown by her HB community. The countless, ongoing messages of support and words of encouragement have meant so much to her.
Thank you to all who continue to send your thoughts, prayers, and love to Lizzie and her family. To continue to support Lizzie and her family, monetary donations can be made through the HB Fire Outreach Foundation.
Elizabeth Lovat & her family wish to extend their sincere thanks for all the support they have received & have provided the following message:
“Thank you to all those who have sent their love, prayers, and well wishes over the last week. Our family is enormously grateful for the outpouring of support we have received not just from our Huntington Beach community, but from all over. Please know that your words of encouragement are so comforting to all of us during this difficult time, keep them coming.
We also want to acknowledge those who have experienced similar injuries and have reached out to share their experiences. Your stories of recovery and triumph are truly inspiring and have given us so much hope and positivity.”

On Monday, July 3, one of our Huntington Beach lifeguards, Elizabeth Lovat, sustained a spinal injury while performing her duties. She was transported to a local area hospital where she remains in stable but serious condition.
Our priority at this time is to provide support for Elizabeth and her family while she recovers.
For those who wish to donate to help us support her, please click here to donate to the Lizzie Fund.
Elizabeth attended Huntington Beach High School and is a Huntington Beach City Lifeguard. She currently attends Iona College in New York and plays D1 Women’s Water Polo. She was recognized as an All-American Athlete and received numerous athletic awards. She has been on the Dean’s List (4.0) in the last year and graduated with honors from high school.
Elizabeth has a passion for helping others and has learned and used her communication skills with American Sign Language to help her community, which has in turn shaped her career and educational goals. She knows what it takes to overcome life's most challenging setbacks and persevere. Her dad taught her “not to be afraid of failure” and her attitude has inspired those around her.
Elizabeth will continue as a senior studying Speech Pathology at Iona College in New York.
